What Is PDR?

The factory-finish way to fix a dent

Paintless dent repair is a skilled technique for removing dents without disturbing your vehicle’s original paint. Using specialized steel rods from behind the panel — or glue-pull tabs from the outside when there’s no access — the metal is slowly massaged back to its original shape.

The result is a repair you can’t see: no filler, no sanding, no repainting and no color mismatch. That means it’s faster, usually far less expensive than a body shop, and it protects your vehicle’s value.

  • Original factory paint stays intact
  • Repairs done on-site, often the same day
  • No waiting days on a body shop or rental car
  • Environmentally friendly — no paint or chemicals

The Repair

How a PDR repair is done

Precision work guided by light — most single dents are finished in one visit.

1

Read the Dent

A reflection light board reveals the exact shape, depth and edges of the damage.

2

Gain Access

We reach behind the panel through existing openings, or use glue-pull tabs from the outside.

3

Massage the Metal

Hundreds of small, controlled pushes slowly return the metal to its original shape.

4

Final Inspection

We check the panel from every angle under the light so the repair disappears.

Most dents are. Here’s a quick guide — and a photo will tell us for sure.

Great candidates

  • Hail damage on roofs, hoods and trunks
  • Creases and dents along body lines
  • Dents on steel and aluminum panels
  • Many plastic bumper dents

When PDR may not be the answer

  • Paint that is cracked, chipped or scratched through
  • Metal that is torn or severely stretched
  • Panels previously repaired with body filler
  • Damage right on a panel edge with no tool access

FAQ

Paintless dent repair questions

What is paintless dent repair?

Paintless dent repair (PDR) removes dents by reshaping the metal from behind the panel with specialized rods and glue-pull tools. Nothing is sanded, filled or repainted, so your vehicle keeps its original factory finish.

How much does paintless dent repair cost?

Price depends on the size, depth and location of the dent and how many there are. Most door dings and small dents cost far less than a body-shop repair. Text a photo to 716-907-8116 for a free quote.

How long does a dent repair take?

Many door dings and single dents take about an hour. Larger creases and hail damage take longer — you’ll get a time estimate along with your quote.

Do you really come to me?

Yes. Dent-Pro is a mobile service. Repairs can be done at your home, workplace or another convenient location around Buffalo and Western New York.

Will the dent come back or the paint crack?

No. PDR reshapes the metal itself and factory paint is flexible enough to move with it. A properly repaired dent doesn’t come back. If the paint is already cracked or chipped, we’ll tell you up front.

Can you fix hail damage, and will insurance cover it?

Yes. PDR is the preferred repair method for most hail damage. Hail is typically covered under the comprehensive portion of an auto policy — text photos of the damage and we’ll help you understand the repair before you file.

Can you repair aluminum panels?

Yes. Aluminum is much harder to work than steel, but with the right technique it can be repaired without paint — like the Porsche fender in our before & after gallery.

Do you offer anything besides dent repair?

Yes — ask about ceramic coating, detailing and headlight restoration when you reach out.
